Music Streaming in real time?

Post by ENAY » Fri Mar 04, 2011 9:54 am

I am going to presume that since I haven't seen any homebrew programs using (well at least what I can tell) streaming audio files (or decoding directly from an .mp3 or .ogg etc) and graphics at the same that it isn't possible or suitable for real time games.

I would suspect that the DS probably isn't powerful enough to stream music files (even raw ones like .wav) without having too much of an overhead unlike say using mod. files.

The tutorials contain a streaming tutorial in the maxmod directory but looking at the source, doesn't seem to be doing anything, not loading or trying to play any kind of files.

According to this thread:-

http://devkitpro.org/viewtopic.php?f=6& ... t=mp3#p741

...decoding and streaming may be taking up as much as 60% but how about just streaming a raw wave file only?

the problem is bandwidth from homebrew carts, not cpu load of decoding. so wav would be even worse. many retail games decode lossy audio music streams.
