How do I use grit?

Sorry for this question, but i am a beginner. How do I exactly use grit. I have a folder called "gfx" and in that folder i have the file:
- FreeImage.dll
- grit.exe
- sprite.png
When I run the grit.exe, it show a command prompt that disappears very fast. I don't get a sprite.grit file or something like that. I don't get anything, please help.

You don't run grit.exe by doubleclicking it, it's intended to be used from the command line, normally from instructions in the Makefile, see the Elevator guide to grit post above.
