favorite sprite editor/tool

I am just getting into the activity of creating new sprites, and using Adobe Fireworks (or Photoshop for that matter) just isn't cutting it for making 16-bit, 32x32 2D sprites... Does anyone have a favorite sprite editor they use, or know of one that is widely used? I found this one with Google:

Maybe there is one that works very well with the devkitPro environment...
Thanks,

There was a recent kickstarter project for a sprite editor that looked interesting, I pledged at the $25 level & it was recently funded.

Spritely is pretty interesting too but sadly written in C#.
It would be nice to see something like this that's both open source and cross platform.

I like Usenti, it is simple and easy to use, able of exporting for gbs/nds
but with no animation support:

Usenti is good but no animation support can be a liiiiittle annoying. Spritely is a good tool but it doesnt go any bigger than 32x32!
