devkitPPC gdb Error

Post by JHjavaDev » Wed Aug 23, 2017 11:58 am

I am trying to use gdb, which comes with devkitPPC to debug a program.

I am able to it in .elf format:

Code: Select all

powerpc-eabi-gdb Wii.elf

GNU gdb (GDB) 7.11
Copyright (C) 2016 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later <http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html>
This is free software: you are free to change and redistribute it.
There is NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law. Type "show copying"
and "show warranty" for details.
This GDB was configured as "--host=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu --target=powerpc-eabi".
Type "show configuration" for configuration details.
For bug reporting instructions, please see:
Find the GDB manual and other documentation resources online at:
For help, type "help".
Type "apropos word" to search for commands related to "word"...
Reading symbols from Wii.elf...done.
and set breakpoints at the correct location:

Code: Select all

(gdb) break file.cpp:png_read_callback

Breakpoint 1 at 0x8001e100: file source/file.cpp, line 11.
but when I try to run it, it gives me an error:

Code: Select all

(gdb) run

Don't know how to run. Try "help target".
Is there anything that I am doing wrong?

After looking around I am not even sure if I can debug the program from my computer. Do I need to run it on the Wii and connect to it using gdb somehow?

Yes. You need to run your code on the wii and connect remotely using usbgecko.

I'll see if I can dig out a writeup on this stuff - it's been a while.
