Gamecube programming?

Post by nerdyguy64 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:52 pm

Two questions, where can I get started on programming for the gamecube, where are some sample files to look at to get a feel for programming for Gamecube. And finally, can you code in java for the Gamcube, or is it just all C? I dont know C, but I can catch on quick.

The devkitPro installer/updater installs a bunch of examples along with devkitPPC & libogc, look in <path/to>/devkitpro/examples/gamecube.

Coding for Gamecube is done in C or C++, we've also included the gcc objective C compiler but no java.

Just out of curiosity: how do you plan to run your apps, once you create them, on hardware?

I've always wondered how you do that...

Whoa.

Was it really that bad?

All I wanted to know is, cool, you finally got yourself a .dol file that you want to run on your Gamecube. How do you go about actually running that app on the console?

You can run your unsigned code with a "Datel SD Media Launcher" for example (still produced).

Does that still work? I thought Nintendo had blocked the Media Launcher and AR discs with later gamecubes?

There are still modchips available that will let you boot from a dvdr & launch homebrew from a GeckoSD although they can be a bit hard to find now. I keep meaning to go digging for one of the open source modchips but I can only find ones with Wii support now.

Well, I have to admit that I didn't know that ^^. It's working fine on my gamecube, but I bought it (remember, remember...), at the launch. Quite a long time ago ^^...
But you still can find some modchips on assentek.com ( http://www.assentek.com/puces-gamecube/ ... 01920.html ), or foxchip.com . But it is going to become harder and harder to find some.
