Emulation Tools along with the devkitPro tools

Post by gmiller1018 » Mon Nov 12, 2007 11:21 pm

Since I have biased interest in the VBA (Visual Boy Advanced) emulator I thought I would speak up here to see what others thought. I have spent time fixing the VBA emulator to correct problem with the functionality, Informational display, and use with the source code debugger I wonder where this should be distributed.

There are still a number of display problems and potential emulation implementation issues that need to be sorted out. I have offered the code to the devkitPro people but the runtime requirements under Windows would require the VS 2005 runtime distribution (which is valid to re-distribute) to make it run. I currently us VS-2005 to compile it under windows because that is what our school gives to each student and instructor.

As I fix things I have been updating the source and have no problem sending it to others but I would like to make sure fixes get back into the code. Wintermute has expressed some interest in the code but at this point I am not sure where or it he would like to include it in the devkitPro distribution.

I was thinking about setting up a project on Source Forge to hold the source so others could contribute to the fixes and report problems. I have no interest in fixing things that would allow the running of anything other than home brew code. Most of the problem with the code were memory allocation errors, debug message handling, and other display problems. Since I can't examine all of the code in a short time I would like other to look at the code and report problems. Since this code is not mine (other than the fixes) I would freely give the code to anyone. I would like to see the code become more accurate in it's emulation so that others can enjoy it's use,

Of course this only addresses the GBA not the DS so it is limited in its application, but if DS is the way people want to go the I understand that no$gba is the way to go (but I have not used it).

Please comment ....

Check out the VBA-M project, people are trying to merge and integrate the various forks of VBA into one Frankensteinian monster emulator.
