Commercial Games
Commercial Games
If anybody knows would it be GX that other wii games such as Mario Kart, Call of Duty Games, etc were made in because I was wondering that for a while now. And one more question, how do commercially burnt wii games work such as:
1.what kind of disc is it burnt onto. e.g: DVD-R, CD-R.
2.What format is the game in when it is burnt e.g: .WII .ISO .DOL.
3.Is it possible for me to make a disc game that shows up on the disc channel.
4.Are they made with devkitPPC.

Re: Commercial Games
GX isn't a language, it's the 3D hardware present in the gamecube and wii so commercial games will use whatever interface the Nintendo tools provide for that. In most cases it's probably some middleware which allows programming for several consoles.
Commercial games aren't burned, they're pressed. This method is only available to officially licensed and authorised developers.1.what kind of disc is it burnt onto. e.g: DVD-R, CD-R.
Don't know, given the answer to 1. it's irrelevant to homebrew.2.What format is the game in when it is burnt e.g: .WII .ISO .DOL.
No.3.Is it possible for me to make a disc game that shows up on the disc channel.
No, official developers are only allowed to use the Nintendo tools.4.Are they made with devkitPPC.
Re: Commercial Games
Where does the name GX come from? Is it in the machine itself, or in some documentation, or something else?
Re: Commercial Games
Can someone tell me how disc pressing works, and what does the file extension .WII Have to do with anything cos I've only heard of .ISO and .DOL and .ELF.
Re: Commercial Games
Ah, to be young and innocent... or naive. Never figured out which one.
I don't actually know how disc pressing works. I think I'll let more knowledgeable people answer that for us.
However, know this. Nintendo is doing everything in its power so that Nintendo, and only Nintendo, can make Wii discs (or GBA/DS/3DS/whatever cartridges). Sometimes they fail, and other people manage to duplicate the process. Nintendo call those people "pirates", whether they actually pirate games or not. So, if it's your intention to create Wii discs, expect LOTS of resistance from Nintendo, LOOOOOOONG hours investigating, hacking, disassembling, reverse-engineering, whatnot, things by yourself, and in general, a big deal of discomfort & pain. If you can handle all of this, well, go ahead, and enjoy!

Re: Commercial Games
Thanks Izhido,
But if I do manage to duplicate the process is it possible for me to sell it or is it illegal. If I am licensed and approved by Nintendo will I be able to make Wii Discs, and how do major companies like SEGA, Infinity Ward and Treyarch make wii discs :
do they hack and do it or do they make Nintendo do it for them.
Thanks,

Make a game first, and then we'll tell you how to get it pressed on official nintendo disks.
