Newbie, wii, older version of devkitPPC & Gcube emu

Post by AAG » Fri Oct 30, 2009 11:23 pm

Hi

I'm a complete newbie to wii homebrew - and also trying to re-learn c by following the "CodeMii Tutorial" linked from http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Tutorials.

I've installed the latest windows installer and compiled the "hello world" project, but it will not run in gcube - gcube seems to hang.

According to the gcube page on the wiki, the "latest version of libogc 20080602" doesn't work with gcube.

Compiling Dolphin would appear to be an option - but the CodeMii tutorails worked in gcube so that would be good enough for me as a starting point.

Looking through the dates of the "devkitPPC release xx" pages, I think that release 14 was the latest one which woukd work with gcube - is this the case?

Is there any way of bein able to install this previous version - or do I need to install visual studio express and compile dolphin?

The sourceforge downloads appears to only list 1 installer (devkitProUpdater-1.5.0.exe), but has older versions of individual components. But I guess you can't replace the libogc version - and the oldest one listed (1.7.0) is older with the latest gcuben compatble one.

Thanks for any help

gcube is a gamecube emulator, any code compiled for gamecube will (mostly) work there. For Wii code you really want hardware or Dolphin. You'll find Dolphin binaries for windows at http://www.dolphin-emu.com/downloads.php?cat_id=1

Thanks for the hint - BUT - I'm having problems getting Dolphin to run.

The above link only seems to host the exe for the latest version "Dolphin SVN Build 4460".

So I've got that, exracted & run dolphin.exe, options configure, click plugins.

Graphics and dsp have entries in them.

PAD and wii remote are just empty - even though I do have the Plugin_PadSimple.dll and Plugin_Wiimote.dll in the plugins dir.

Trying to load my helloworld.dof gives an error in dolphin of "can't init any pads", if i click ok, then I get another warning, "couldn't init the core. Check your config".

Clicking the "wiimote" icon gives warning - "error loading plugs/plugin_wiirmot.dll:can't read info".

Is something broken in this revision? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

PS - Running the DolphinIL.exe gives the same - whats the difference in exe's????

You need to update directx, there's a note about it on the Dolphin forums.
